progress: retry ferr.flush() and .write() on EINTR (issue5532) See the inline comment how this could mitigate the issue. I couldn't reproduce the exact problem on my Linux machine, but there are at least two people who got EINTR in progress.py, and it seems file_write() of Python 2 is fundamentally broken [1]. Let's make something in on 4.2. [1]: https://hg.python.org/cpython/file/v2.7.13/Objects/fileobject.c#l1850

Make sure HGMERGE doesn't interfere with the test:
$ unset HGMERGE
$ hg init
Initial file contents:
$ echo "line 1" > f
$ echo "line 2" >> f
$ echo "line 3" >> f
$ hg ci -Am "revision 0"
adding f
$ cat f

$ sed 's/line 1/first line/' f > f.new
$ mv f.new f
$ hg ci -Am "edited first line"
Branch 2: editing line 3:
$ hg update 0

$ sed 's/line 3/third line/' f > f.new
$ mv f.new f
$ hg ci -Am "edited third line"

Merge using internal:fail tool:
$ echo "[merge-patterns]" > .hg/hgrc
$ echo "* = internal:fail" >> .hg/hgrc
$ hg merge
0 files updated, 0 files merged, 0 files removed, 1 files unresolved

merge: suggest 'hg up -C .' for discarding changes, not 'hg up -C'...
r12314 use 'hg resolve' to retry unresolved file merges or 'hg update -C .' to abandon
